New finance director for government's emerging markets investment company

Richard Laing has been appointed as the new finance director of government-owned CDC Group plc with a brief to help the organisation, which invests in emerging markets, become a public-private partnership.

Formerly the Commonwealth Development Corporation, CDC has over £1.5bn invested in commercially viable businesses in over 400 businesses in emerging markets.

He succeeds Nicholas Denniston who is now responsible for managing and expanding CDC’s corporate finance activities.

Laing will report to Alan Gillespie, who joined last December from Goldman Sachs.

He moves from De La Rue where was group finance director. He qualified as a chartered accountant with Price Waterhouse in London.
