Former consultant to head up Church finances

Gill Laver, a former senior consultant at PA Consulting, has stepped up to the pulpit for the role of the Church of England's new director of finance and central services for its archbishop's council.

Laver is a chartered accountant who served as a senior consultant at PA Consulting during the late 1980s.

She then took on the finance director role at Wedgwood until 1994, served as group FD and IT director of GEC Avery for the next fours years.

Later she joined Eversheds as national finance director before setting up her own business.

‘I am delighted to be joining this great organisation that plays a vital role at the heart of our nation,’ said Laver.

‘I look forward with immense excitement to working with colleagues on the Church’s financial issues.’

As finance director, Laver will oversee the clergy and pensions payroll of £420m, direct financial administration and activities, as well as play a ‘key role’ in delivering the strategic overview of Church finances.

As director of central services, covering all the national Church institutions, she will also be responsible for accounting, internal audit, IT, Church House Publishing and Church House Bookshop.

Laver is a member of the Auditing Practices Board, the Audit Committee of Arts Council, England, and a trustee and honorary treasurer of Diabetes UK.
