In one of the transfers of the summer, Steve Makin has been launched into the chief exec's seat at Umbro after less than a year at the company as head of finance, replacing Peter McGuigan
Makin joined Umbro in
July 2006 as CFO but now assumes overall executive control on McGuigan’s
departure to join Americana.
As the producer of England football shirts, Umbro’s financial health is
heavily dependent on the success of the national team. It is now targeting
growth in new markets in a bid to overcome ‘challenging’ trading conditions in
the UK.
Nigel Doughty, chairman of Umbro, said: ‘I am very confident that Steve and
the strong management team will continue to deliver on this growth strategy and
maximise value for Umbro’s shareholders.’
