Q&A: Sage's recent performance

Each week AccountancyAge.com asks an expert in the technology field to discuss industry issues. This week, Basda chief executive Dennis Keeling offers his views on Sage's latest results.

Q Do Sage’s strong results come as a surprise?

A Not really, we have recently completed a quarterly survey, that showed there is more optimism in the market.

However, it also found there is a real mixed bag in the market in terms of performance. Sage’s results indicate enquiries are up.

Q Is Microsoft a threat to Sage in the long-term?

A That is a difficult question to answer without knowing exactly what Microsoft’s plans are.

However, it is the only organisation that is capable of threatening Sage in its market, providing they continue to move in the direction they have been moving. The two are certainly set to compete in the same market space.

Q Will Sage’s acquisition trail continue?

A The Sage acquisition trail has run for a long time and will certainly continue. Acquisitions are Sage’s main method of growing its business.
