E&Y awards Scotsman who built £190m empire from scratch

Unemployed mechanic now running £190m recruitment firm

Ernst
& Young’s Scotland entrepreneur of the year
has been named as Alan
Savage, chairman of Orion Group, now
Scotland’s largest international employment agency.

An independent judging panel of entrepreneurs selected by the firm chose
Savage after he started Orion Group in 1987 to provide staff for oil rig
construction yards.

His company now has an annual turnover of £190m in the UK, and aims to raise
that to £400m by next year.

Orion now supplies more than 4,000 personnel working in 44 countries.

Savage will compete in the UK awards final to be held in London in October.
