At the G7 summit over the weekend, chaired by Brown, the Treasury agreed to look into proposals from France and Germany that a tax on aeroplane fuel be used to bankroll poverty-reduction and development projects in poor countries.
The Observer reported that Brown, initially in favour of funding debt relief by issuing bonds, had agreed to give the aircraft fuel tax serious consideration.
