Annual report of the year - business: PartyGaming

PartyGaming's use of imagery, colour and language made the report easy to read and navigate

PartyGaming, according to its website, is the world’s leading listed online
gaming company. Now Accountancy Age can reveal that it is the leading
candidate in the Annual Report Business category in the 2009 awards.

The company has always tried to make its annual reports stand out from the
crowd, and this year its efforts have paid off. Judges agreed that PartyGaming’s
accounts stood out, adding that they liked the layout.

Clear communication of important issues and accessibility of information were
the main points that were highlighted: the judges said that “it was easy to find
one’s way around”, “it was good to read something without jargon they got the
key messages across very clearly”, and “they did a good job of communicating the
measurement of corporate social responsibility issues”.

PartyGaming said that it wanted to “produce a report that reflects the fun
and excitement of the games on offer”, achieving this by skilful use of
photography, cartoons and layout space in their colourful report.

The use of icons to illustrate key facts, case studies and new items for the
year was very effective in drawing stakeholders’ attention to important points
in the report, as well as being easy on the eye. Key performance indicators were
presented in the report at both group and divisional level, with colourful
diagrams to aid understanding. The language used is clear too, with a helpful
glossary at the back to explain any difficult terms.

PartyGaming is justifiably proud of this year’s annual report, which the firm
says “is even better than last year’s”. The effort they have made in its
production makes them a fitting winner for the accolade this year.

COLOURFUL COMMUNICATION

PartyGaming wanted to focus on “achieving best practice reporting and
producing a report that reflects the exciting nature” of their business. This
report certainly achieves that. The use of imagery, colour and language was very
effective in communicating information, and made the report easy to read and
easy to find one’s way around, with a handy glossary at the back.
