Self assessment ad man wishes tax was simpler
The man who fronted adverts for the taxman has complained that the tax system is too complex
He is the well-known face of HM Revenue Customs’s ‘Tax doesn’t have to be
taxing’ advertising campaign, but now Adam Hart-Davis says he wishes tax was
simpler.
The historian and BBC presenter has fronted the self-assessment filing
returns campaign since 2002 and in an interview with Radio Five Live Hart-Davis
said the system was too complicated, especially for the self-employed.
He said a flat rate for tax would be easier to manage and generate more
revenue. He described VAT as ‘absurdly complicated’.
