The strategic move for EQ signals expansion into Scotland and the North of England

Sumer, one of the leading UK mid-market accountancy firm, has reinforced its commitment to driving innovation and regional growth through a landmark merger of EQ and Douglas Home & Co. This transformative partnership signals Sumer’s strategic venture into the Scottish and Northern English markets, bolstering its extensive network and amplifying its collective impact.

EQ, which joined the Sumer network last year after the firm acquired a major stake, has merged with Douglas Home & Co., increasing its office count to 10 locations across Scotland and Northern England. The combined entity will have a workforce of 210 dedicated professionals, tripling EQ’s turnover from £11 million to an ambitious £30 million target within the next 3-5 years.

Warren Mead, Chief Executive Officer of Sumer, emphasized the company’s mission to propel SMEs to new heights of success through unparalleled support and expertise.

“The merger of EQ and Douglas Home & Co. marks a pivotal milestone, reinforcing our position as a catalyst for innovation and strategic growth. Together, we are poised to unlock opportunities and drive transformative change across Scotland, North England, and beyond,” he said.

“This pivotal step not only aligns with our strategic growth plans but also underscores our commitment to fostering innovation and driving excellence,” says Craig Nicol, CEO at EQ Accountants, echoing Mead’s statement.

“From the outset, it was clear that the working style and culture of Douglas Home & Co. seamlessly aligned with ours, bolstering our shared commitment to delivering unparalleled client service.”

With a shared ethos of excellence and dedication to client-centric solutions, this merger exemplifies Sumer’s unwavering commitment to champion local businesses while harnessing national expertise. As Sumer continues its mission to empower businesses nationwide, the EQ-Douglas Home & Co. merger signifies a strategic venture that redefines industry standards in the accountancy landscape.

Sumer, a top 15 UK accountancy practice, now boasts 9 regional hubs, 45 offices, and over 1,200 colleagues, all focused on championing SMEs across the UK and Ireland. The firm’s strategy revolves around acquiring leading regional practices that share the same ethos, values, and approach, forming regional hubs throughout the UK.
