August People Moves: A series of mid-market promotions

Each month, Accountancy Age delivers a comprehensive update on the key people moves and promotions that have taken place among the UK accountancy market’s top-100 firms.

In September, we unpack the wave of activity in the industry’s mid-market as Azets and RSM both unveil major updates.

Mid-tier

(August 2) UHY Hacker Young has appointed Nick Donohue as a new tax partner. Donohue holds over 25 years’ experience in the industry, with previous stints at Grant Thornton and CLB Coopers.

(August 4) Cooper Parry has announced the promotion of Carolyn Pears and Salvatore Mingoia to partner. Pears assumed the role of finance director at the firm in September 2018, arriving from Benoy, while Mingoia, who previously worked at Grant Thornton, joined as the head of new business development in July 2021.

(August 10) Kreston Reeves has revealed the promotion of Tom Boniface to partner. He becomes the 47th partner at the firm, and currently heads up the global mobility team at the firm.

(August 14) Mark Hendry who has an abundance of experience as an information security and data protection risk leader, has been hired by Evelyn Partners as a partner. Hendry, who will help build a new advisory practice for the firm has previously spent periods at Deloitte and PWC.

(August 14) Hurst has welcomed its largest ever cohort of trainees., with 11 individuals joining the firm. The group consists of eight individuals who have graduated from university and three who have recently completed sixth-form college.

(August 16) RSM UK has appointed Matthew Rose as partner to strengthen its growing consultancy team. He joins the firm from the international US law firm Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, where he served for more than 12 years as a lawyer, specialising in UK and EU competition law.

(August 18) Haines Watts has appointed Sophie Kwiatkowski as a new associate partner in Leeds. Kwiatkowski who was previously at PFM Townends LLP for nine years, specialises in supporting dentistry professionals.

(August 18) MHA Moore and Smalley has welcomed Lindsey Shepherd as its newest partner to join its North West audit team. She joins to the company from DJH Mitten Clarke but has spent the majority of her career so far at Azets.

(August 21) haysmacintyre confirmed the hiring of Dougie Todd as a new partner in the firms VAT team. Todd comes to haysmacintyre from bet365, where he served as the Assistant Tax Director, overseeing the VAT and duties teams for two years.

(August 24) A group of 55 graduates, school leavers and career changers are starting their careers in accountancy at PKF Francis Clark. The cohort will be spread across the firm’s offices in Bristol, Exeter, Plymouth, Poole, Salisbury, Taunton, Torquay and Truro.

(August 30) Azets has appointed Leigh Davenport as a partner in the firm’s tax division. Davenport has plenty of experience at big four firms, spending seven years at PWC as a tax manager and 15 years at KPMG as a senior tax manager.

(August 30) Dan Town has been promoted to an audit partner at Crowe UK, having first joined the firm in 2016. Town rejoined Crowe after a short spell at Hazlewoods and has also worked as a tax manager at Deloitte and RSM.

Trade bodies and regulators  

(August 10) R3, the UK’s insolvency and restructuring trade association revealed Ian Leonard as its new chair of R3 in Northern Ireland. Leonard, who is a director at Interpath Advisory in Ireland, assumes the position previously held by James Neill, partner and head of KPMG’s turnaround and restructuring practice.
