Each month, Accountancy Age delivers a comprehensive update on the key people moves and promotions that have taken place among the UK accountancy market’s top-100 firms.
In August, we unpack the wave of activity in the industry’s mid-market, as Evelyn Partners, Cowgills, and haysmacintyre all unveil major updates. Moves were also recorded for Big Four firm PwC as well as the Financial Reporting Council (FRC).
(July 1) Menzies has promoted Rachel Lai and Phil Wright to partner. Lai joined the firm in 2015, specialising in business recovery from its Cardiff office. Joining in 2006, Wright was part of the firm’s audit team before his move to a more SME-focused role.
(July 3) haysmacintyre has announced the appointment of Paul Atkins as partner, who joins the firm as part of its property team. Previously, Atkins served as the group tax director at the Vistry Group, and before that, he held management positions at easyJet and KPMG.
(July 4) Tina Sunderland has been promoted to partner by SRLV after 10 years at the firm. Sunderland joined from Deloitte in 2013, and will continue running SRLV’s music and entertainment team.
(July 6) Cowgills has revealed the promotion of Jane Rash to partner who will head up strategic support in the firm’s deal advisory team. Rash has a wealth of experience with over 20 years at the firm where she joined as a newly-qualified accountant.
(July 10) Old Mill has appointed Adil Taha its first-ever Chief Operating Officer, who will be spearheading the business throughout the next three years of their five-year plan and beyond. He brings a wealth of experience, having successfully led operations and executed strategic initiatives to drive growth across various sectors, including private equity, legal, and investment banking.
July 10) haysmacintyre has announced the promotion of Jon Maddison and Rakesh Vaitha and the appointment of Sabina Burke to Director. Maddison began his journey at the firm in 2015 as a trainee, while Vaitha has spent six years heading its risk assurance and advisory services. Burke takes up her role as part of the business tax team.
(July 11) RSM UK has hired Joel Segal as partner, joining the firm’s consulting team. Segal has over 25 years of experience in the industry, including seven years at PWC as a senior partner.
(July 13) MHA has revealed the hiring of Lee Van Houplines as partner in its Manchester office. He brings a wealth of experience in audit to the firm, most recently as a partner at Azets where he spent 19 years.
(July 13) Bishop Fleming has announced two internal promotions, with Jon Sparkes and Luke Venner being appointed to partner. Sparkes has been with the firm since 2012, becoming a tax director in 2015. Venner has been with the firm since 2005, joining as a trainee before he was selected as a director in the firm’s restructuring team.
(July 18) Laurence Kiddle has been hired as head of transformation at Evelyn Partners. Kiddle has spent over 20 years in the industry, previously holding leadership positions at Deloitte as a partner and most recently as CEO at Arkk.
(July 19) After obtaining Responsible Individual (RI) status from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), Rachel Heath has been appointed as director RI at BHP. Heath plays a role in BHP’s specialised charities team and also serves as a trustee for the Sheffield housing charity, Target Housing, in addition to her previous role as a trustee for Helen’s Trust.
(July 24) Sedulo has revealed the hiring of Brian Love as commercial finance director. Love will bring huge experience to the role as he leads the new specialist property team, with stints at Barclays and Christie Finance.
(July 24) Moore Kingston Smith has announced the addition of Mike Orton to the Corporate Finance team, alongside Jonathan Ford and Jonathan Russell, who joins the firm’s Corporate Client Services team. All three recruits will bring a vast amount of experience to the firm, will all three possessing over 20 years in the industry.
(July 27) MHA has acquired the services of Rob Dawes, a corporate finance specialist who has been appointed as a partner. Dawes will bring a great deal of experience to the firm after spending time at BDO and Grant Thornton previously.
(July 31) After joining Cowgills in 2018 as an audit director, Nilesh Modhvadia has been promoted to partner. He arrives at the firm after holding roles in audit and advisory at RSM UK, taking Cowgills’ partner total to 23.
(July 31) HW Fisher has announced the addition of Andrew Tall as a corporate tax partner. Tall is ACA and CTA qualified and has more than 25 years experience that includes time at Mazars and Greenback Alan.
(July 4) EY UK has revealed the hiring of 267 new partners, an increase of 10% in the firm’s total UK partner population (1683).
(26 July) Daniel Cameron has been appointed as a Partner at PwC, leading the firm’s digital procurement capability and expanding its Deals practice. Cameron joins from running his own company carrying out advisory work for start-ups and advising companies on their procurement needs.
July 7) The ICAEW has announced the appointment of Will Holt as its new Managing Director, Education and Training. Replacing Hazel Garvey, Holt will supervise the ICAEW’s student offering, including the ACA qualification, routes into the profession, and talent and diversity.
(July 31) The FRC has announced the appointment of Richard Moriarty, who will begin his role in October. He will be succeeding Sir Jon Thompson, who stepped down after filling the role of Chair of HS2. Thompson joins the FRC following a 20-year career at several regulatory bodies, most recently as CEO of the Civil Aviation Authority.
