People Moves Update: A series of mid-market appointments

Each month, Accountancy Age delivers a comprehensive update on the key people moves and promotions that have taken place among the UK accountancy market’s top-100 firms.  

In January, we unpack the flurry of activity in the industry’s mid-market, as BHP, DJH Mitten, and Evelyn Partners all unveil major updates. People moves were also recorded for Big Four firm EY as well as several mid-market firms.  

Big Four   

(December 2) EY has appointed Anna Delvecchio as a partner, joining its government and infrastructure consultancy practice in the UK. Delvecchio will be part of the transport team and brings 25 years of experience to her new position.   

She was most recently a development director in transport at Mott Macdonald. Prior to this, she spent seven years as head of commercial at infrastructure specialist, Amey. 

Mid-market   

(December 1) Evelyn Partners has announced three major tax appointments – Alistair Nichol, Jayne Harrold and Laura Hayward.   

These latest hires mean the firm has recruited 14 partners externally over the course of 2022.  

(December 1) DJH Mitten has expanded its R&D incentive support with a new office in Sheffield. The new office will be led by Tom Whitworth after a successful spell establishing an innovations reliefs team at a South Yorkshire accountancy practice.   

(December 1) Grant Lee has been appointed as a partner in Gerald Edelman’s audit team. Lee brings experience in audit, consulting and transactional services, attained at Goldman Sachs between 2005 and 2006, PwC between 2006 and 2020 and, most recently, as an independent consultant. 

(December 2) Shirley Mcintosh MBE has been appointed as a partner in Saffery Champness’ Inverness branch. Mcintosh boasts over thirty years of experience in the industry, spanning senior roles at RSM, Stephen Hay & Associates and as Coopers & Lybrand prior to its 1998 merger with Price Waterhouse.   

(December 6) HW Fisher has appointed two new directors. Tamara Howe has been recruited for the position of director of financial crime prevention and Sam Dewes has been promoted to director in its private client department.   

(December 7) BHP has announced 75 promotions across the company to add to the 45 it made at the start of the year. New appointments were also made with one new partner, two, three senior managers, and five managers.   

(December 20) PKF Smith Cooper has attained the services of Piers Pye-Watson for the role of R&D tax manager. This is part of the firm’s expansion of its specialist tax division.
