MTD: Guide for accountants

Many accountants have been hoping for a delay to MTD for VAT, IRIS research showed in the latter part of 2018.

But the developments of early 2019 have surely erased any last trace of hope that the deadline would be pushed back again, now that HMRC has extended its pilot.

The news indicated strongly that the reforms are very much on track and set to take effect on April 1, as planned.

Delay desire

Large support for a postponement was indicated in an IRIS survey, with 72 percent of the 307 customers who responded (77 percent for single partner firms), saying they thought one was required. Just 28 percent didn’t want one.

This seemed to suggest significant anxiety and uncertainty about what’s required – or simply a feeling of not having enough time.

Soothing MTD anxiety

There’s help at hand though. IRIS has created an easy to follow guide, to soothe that trepidation.

The guide takes you through all the essentials of MTD that will ensure accountants are feeling prepared and confident in taking the next vital steps.

It breaks down MTD in to the most essential chunks, explaining key terms such as APIs and digital links.

Guiding accountants

The IRIS guide takes accountants through:

  • What accountants need to do next
  • The first steps to understanding if existing software does what’s required
  • What video resources are available
  • Where to find out more

On top of our guide we also have launched our five simple steps to MTD success that will set you on the right path to MTD compliance. You can watch the replays of all five webinars, read the articles and download the whitepaper here. IRIS’s team of experts are always happy to talk through your concerns and queries so if you think that you’d benefit from having a conversation then please call us.
