Many accountants have been hoping for a delay to MTD for VAT, IRIS research showed in the latter part of 2018.
But the developments of early 2019 have surely erased any last trace of hope that the deadline would be pushed back again, now that HMRC has extended its pilot.
The news indicated strongly that the reforms are very much on track and set to take effect on April 1, as planned.
Large support for a postponement was indicated in an IRIS survey, with 72 percent of the 307 customers who responded (77 percent for single partner firms), saying they thought one was required. Just 28 percent didn’t want one.
This seemed to suggest significant anxiety and uncertainty about what’s required – or simply a feeling of not having enough time.
