BDO makes new regional hire

The fifth largest accountancy firm in the UK, BDO, has appointed a new partner in the East Midlands.

Laurie Hannant will join the East Midlands team as an audit partner.

The appointment comes just weeks after BDO LLP merged with another top ten accountancy firm, Moore Stephens, to move the overall entity from sixth to fifth largest in the UK.

The merger actually places the new firm into third when it comes to audit.

Hannant joins BDO from Big Four firm EY where she spent 15 years leading complicated audits for clients that were going through change and transformation. She worked with a range of businesses, from smaller ones looking to expand to global listed companies.

The incoming partner has specialisms across the retail, manufacturing, and engineering sectors, where she will continue to add value and develop her expertise.

Hannant will be joining BDO’s Nottingham office, emphasising how the firm are committed to their regional presence around the UK.

Seeing as she’s from the region herself, Hannant has lots of positives to say about the East Midlands, describing it as “such a dynamic and fast growing business community and the role presented a compelling opportunity to work back in my home region. As BDO is set to join forces with Moore Stephens LLP, it’s a fantastic time to be joining such an ambitious firm”.

She added: “We’ve never experienced so much change in the audit industry and combined with the current political backdrop, it’s a fascinating time to work in our sector. I’m looking forward to adding value to the firm, our clients and the wider businesses community.”

Andrew Mair, partner and head of BDO in the region, spoke of Hannant’s appointment: “As a business, we’re always looking to attract and retain the best talent the sector has to offer – and Laurie is a great example of just that. This latest hire in the East Midlands reinforces our commitment to ensuring we provide our clients with quality advice they can trust.”
