KPMG makes senior appointments in cyber security team

Cyber security expert David Ferbrache takes on the role of Chief Technology Officer, having previously been head of cyber and space at the Ministry of Defence

KPMG has appointed cyber security expert David Ferbrache as Chief Technology Officer in the firm’s cyber security practice.

Ferbrache brings over 30 years experience in technology risk and information security. He joined KPMG in 2013, prior to which he held the senior government post of head of cyber and space at the Ministry of Defence. His work in national security led to him receiving an OBE.

In his new role Ferbrache will lead on cyber strategy, innovation and the development of cyber technologies. He will oversee the delivery of cyber support to financial services clients, as well as the work of the KPMG ethical hacking team.

The Big Four firm also expanded its cyber services team with the promotion of Matthew Martindale to partner. In this role Martindale will lead cyber security work for clients in the insurance and investment management markets.

Martindale joined the firm in 2000 and has since worked on delivering cyber security advisory and assurance engagements to a range of sectors including financial services, oil and gas and the government.

Bernard Brown, vice chair at KPMG UK commented: “Cyber security is a real and growing issue for business. Firms – big and small – up and down the country are increasingly realising that it is something they cannot ignore.”

“As cyber-attacks occur with increasing regularity they are looking for teams who can help them defend and maintain their business in the face of increasing cyber challenges. This has reflected in the growth of our team and over the past few years our cyber security team has grown rapidly.”

“Today, the promotions for Matthew and David will help us continue deliver great and trusted work for our clients.”

KPMG UK reported a 5% increase in revenue but a drop in profits for 2016, and also recently made 174 senior appointments across various sectors.
