Haines Watts continues to grow with latest London-based acquisition

Top 15 firm Haines Watts has announced its acquisition of Westbury Chartered Accountants, based in Farringdon, London.

The merger took effect in November 2017, strengthening the firm’s position as a leading advisor to aspirational business owners in the city.

The deal “combines two firms that have a similar culture, with practice strengths and sector expertise that are highly complementary,” according to Matt Perry, London managing partner of Haines Watts.

The firm has expanded its London presence significantly with this acquisition, with Westbury Accountants adding six partners and 34 staff with a combined London turnover of £10m to Haines Watts’ total headcount.

Perry commented: “Our London capability has always been an important cornerstone in our expansion plans. This deal is a culmination of five years of sustained growth, both organic and through acquisition, and cements our place in the market.”

He added: “Haines Watts is totally committed to supporting the business owner sector and our recent growth enables us to continue to do that. The extended team places us in a far stronger position to take advantage of the opportunities in the market and provide a significant alternative to the local competition.”

Keith Graham, managing partner at Westbury Accountants, said: “Our existing client base will benefit from Haines Watts’ innovation and growth in the market.”

Graham continued: “We are now able to expand our service offering for clients across various new areas including legal services, corporate finance, and strategic planning as well as broadening our traditional offering with more specialists to hand in areas such as VAT and tax planning.”

“In turn, we bring an established capability in the art sector which complements the existing creative sector capability in the London office of Haines Watts.”

Perry concludes: “As a management team we have been resolute in our determination to retain and deliver a proposition to business owners that is based on a deep understanding of what it means to own and run a business.”

“We have now secured our ability to deliver solutions and services that support business owners in achieving their goals faster.”

Perry highlights Haines Watts’ CMI accredited leadership development programme as one way that the company is investing in talent: “Underpinning our future success is our ability to retain and attract talent across all areas of our business.”

“We have invested in an acclaimed leadership development programme and will continue to innovate our talent initiatives so that we become an employer of choice.  I am delighted to welcome the Westbury team to Haines Watts and I am certain that we have a very bright and exciting future.”

As part of their growth plan, Haines Watts also merged with Worcestershire-based firm Focus Accountancy and Liverpool-based GLF Richards over two weeks in 2015. Their expansion aims have paid off, with the firm among those to boast significant growth in recent tax and audit rankings.

The firm has more than 60 offices around the UK, and placed 13th in this year’s top 50+50 rankings, with a growth of 7.9% since 2016.
