KPMG has appointed a new head of international tax.

Melissa Geiger returns to the firm following three years with GlaxoSmithKline, where she held the role of global head of tax.

During her time at KPMG, Geiger became the youngest female equity partner, and had responsibility for the firm’s M&A tax offering. She was also lead partner for clients in global banking, and large corporates.

Michelle Quest, partner and head of tax at KPMG, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Melissa back to KPMG to lead our international tax group. Melissa is well known within KPMG as a truly high calibre tax professional and has since built significant practical experience and sector knowledge from her time in the life sciences industry. Her appointment reflects our commitment to support the growth of a core area of our business and will bring real value to our clients.”

Geiger said: “The international tax environment is becoming increasingly complex. Such rapid change means that corporates are looking for expert advice to help navigate the challenges this brings, such as ensuring their tax strategy supports their business growth ambitions.”
