BDO HAS SCOOPED the audit role for Game Digital from Deloitte, its previous auditor.
Deloitte has resigned as the auditor of Game Digital effective from 1 November and BDO will be appointed for the financial year ending 29 July 2017.
Anna Draper, audit partner at BDO, said: “Following the competitive tender process, we are delighted to be appointed as auditor of Game Digital. This is a great addition to our portfolio of public interest entities, and we look forward to working with Game.”
Deloitte first audited Game Digital for the financial period ending July 2012 and after five years of providing the service the company board of directors reviewed the appointment of its auditors.
The audit and risk committee and senior management conducted the process and investigated the options where it could receive exceptional service, but potentially at a reduced cost. The news comes the same time as Essentra has appointed PwC as its external auditor to replace KPMG.
The audit market has seen churn following the introduction of regulation that enforces mandatory tendering. However, there have been few examples of major audits moving outside of the Big Four’s domain
Hywel Ball, audit partner at EY previously told Accountancy Age: “The danger I think we’ve got is that the Big Four will go down the market and compete for accounts traditionally held by the non-Big Four. Yet, one of the underlying drivers of the regulation was to improve choice in the market.”
Game’s directors extended their appreciation to Deloitte for the firm’s contribution over recent years in the audit role.
