OTS seeks new senior policy advisers

THE OTS has begun its search for three senior policy advisers, less than two weeks after announcing the resignation of tax director John Whiting.

Those looking to apply will have to deal with a number of responsibilities, one of the most crucial being reviewing complex areas of the tax system through desk-based research and discussion with policy officials and external stakeholders, to identify areas suitable for simplification.

“The OTS is looking for up to three part-time tax professionals with a breadth of current or recent private sector experience in the tax profession, and an enthusiasm to build on the OTS’s work to date, to help drive out potential structural and administrative simplifications to the tax system, as policy advisers on various areas of the Office’s ongoing and future work,” stated the OTS job listing.

Candidates will be expected have a suitable professional qualification, such as being a chartered tax adviser, or to be able to demonstrate comparable knowledge and experience.

Those who are successful will be “supporting the OTS tax director and work of the office”. Current tax director John Whiting will be stepping down in November, who has decided to finish his six-and-a-half year stint with the independent office.

Candidates are also required to have experience of working creatively with stakeholders with different perspectives and priorities across different parts of an organisation and in other organisations (whether in government, business or the tax profession).
