A FORMER CIOT PRESIDENT and eminent tax practitioner has pleaded guilty to possessing extreme pornographic images and making and distributing abusive photographs of children.
Stephen Coleclough was president of the tax institute CIoT between 2013 and 2014. His career took in stints at PwC and law firm Mishcon de Reya.
The 53-year-old of Tibbs Way, Bugbrooke in Northamptonshire, was convicted at Northampton Crown Court on Thursday.
He was arrested in March 2015 by Northamptonshire Police’s Paedophile On Line Investigation Team.
He will be sentenced in April and has been placed on the sex offenders register.
Coleclough is a qualified solicitor and spent 16 years with PwC, culminating in a role as global head of indirect taxes. Prior to that, he was head of corporate and indirect taxes at Simmons & Simmons. He was chairman of the CIoT’s Technical Committee from May 2005 to May 2008.
In 2014, law firm Mishcon de Reya hired Coleclough as a consultant as it sought to develop its tax arm.
Between 2008 and 2012 he was president of the Confédération Fiscale Européenne, the body of European tax advisers, which embraces 33 national organisations from 24 European States, representing more than 180,000 tax advisers.
In a statement, the CIoT said it was “shocked and saddened” by the news.
