BEN SHERMAN, the British fashion brand beloved by 1960’s mods and 1990’s Britpop bands, has been sold in a pre-pack administration deal.
Leeds-based BMB Clothing Limited, which operates the Jeff Banks and Suit Direct shops acquired the business from US outfit, Marquee Brands, just six months after shelling out for the company.
Up to 100 jobs are potentially under threat both at it network of stores and offices. Three outlets – all in London – are set to close with the loss of around 20 employees.
While Marquee will continue to own the brand, a licensing agreement will see BMB Clothing operate the stores.
The label began life in the same year that John F Kennedy was assassinated and became adopted as a fashion staple of successive waves of British youth cult movements ever since.
Details of the deal emerged just weeks after Ben Sherman began consultations with its staff.
Marquee Brands is backed by Neuberger Berman Private Equity.
