Kingston Smith to expand legal services with SRA licence

Top 20 firm licenced to go legal, as it looks to offer broader range of services to clients

AN EXPANSION of legal services offered by Kingston Smith has been granted through a licence from the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

The top 20 firm has been awarded an alternative business licence by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

As part of its expansion plans the firm has appointed Andrew Bloom as head of legal services. Bloom previously served at Steptoe & Johnson, and will be looking to help the firm provide more legal services to clients.

It currently offers probate services through an ICAEW-granted licence.

Michael Snyder, senior partner at Kingston Smith, said: “The granting of our ABS licence and Andrew’s appointment as head of legal services is in line with the firm’s strategic direction in terms of building on its existing client services.

“Additionally, clients will certainly benefit from Andrew’s extensive expertise and legal knowledge and we look forward to all that he brings to the firm.”

Wilson partner James Johnson, who advised the firm on the deal, said the application “should mark a watershed moment for provision of legal services by accountancy firms”. “…the MDP model is now truly with us,” he added.

Kingston Smith is ranked 18 in the Accountancy Age Top 50+50 Survey supported by Wolters Kluwer, with £43.7m in fees.
