ICAEW fellow charged over crime family probe

Ekaireb is the father of multi-millionaire Robert Ekaireb who was jailed for life in 2014 for the murder of his Chinese-born pregnant wife in 2006

AN ICAEW fellow has been charged with five others under the Proceeds of Crime Act following a probe by the Metropolitan Police and HMRC into the Adams family crime syndicate.

Rex Ekaireb, 67, of Hendon, was charged with falsely stating the amount of income for tax purposes that Michael Adams – brother of Terry Adams, jailed in 2007 for money laundering – received from consultancy work, commissions and introduction fees.

Ekaireb has also been charged with converting criminal property for the purpose of money laundering.

He is the father of multi-millionaire Robert Ekaireb who was jailed for life last year for the murder of his Chinese-born pregnant wife, Li Hau Cao, in 2006. The body of the former lapdancer has never been found.

The six – charged on Sunday (9 August) – are accused of converting criminal property, “namely banknotes”, with the knowledge that they were obtained from criminal conduct, falsely stating the amount of income for tax purposes and two charges of money laundering.

All six are due to appear at Croydon Magistrates Court on Friday, 9 October.
