Dodwell set for CIoT presidency

Bill Dodwell to take CIoT presidency in two years' time, after holding vice and deputy terms

ONE OF THE UK’s most influential and high profile tax advisers has been lined up as the CIoT’s new president.

Deloitte tax policy head Bill Dodwell will serve as the tax institute’s vice president from May, before serving terms as deputy president and then president.

Dodwell was a member of the interim advisory panel on GAAR, and chairs the CIoT’s technical committee. Oft-quoted in the media, he spoke on the Starbucks tax controversy last year, saying its activities were “unquestionably legal“.

Of his vice-presidency, Dowdell said: “I am honoured to have been asked by colleagues on the CIoT council to serve as an officer of the institute. The CIoT has an important role to play in promoting greater public understanding of the tax system and I look forward to contributing to its continuous development.”

Senior tax lawyer Anne Fairpo, of Atlas Tax Chambers, is to take over from Stephen Coleclough as president in three months. Current vice president Chris Jones will advance to deputy, from vice president, at the same time.

Current CIoT president Stephen Coleclough said Dodwell’s deep understanding of international corporate tax issues is “second to none”.

“As chairman of the institute’s technical committee he has already been at the forefront of the institute’s policy work and engagement with government.”
