Alan Milburn takes PwC health role

FORMER HEALTH SECRETARY Alan Milburn has joined PwC’s newly-created Health Industry Oversight Board as its chairman.

The board has been created as part of the firm’s new health industry sector, pulling together its service lines in public and private health, pharmaceutical and life sciences.
Milburn served as MP for Darlington between 1992 and 2010, serving as chief secretary to the Treasury, chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and as health secretary.

During his time in health he led great change, including increasing privatisation and competition. More recently he called on Labour to avoid rowing back on such initiatives in its policy strategy.

Alan Milburn, Chair of PwC’s Health Industry Oversight Board, said: “I’m delighted to be working with PwC in this new role. The health industry in the UK offers strong opportunities for growth in the wider economy and for PwC. My aim is to bring together a panel of industry experts to help catalyse change across the health sector and to help PwC grow its presence in the health market.”

PwC head of markets and industries Richard Oldfield said the appointment and board formation marked a “significant investment in its health services division.
