Liquidators used for first time by SOCA to collect tax

Kingston Smith partner Ian Defty called in by SOCA to help collect £1.7m in tax

LIQUIDATORS have been called in for the first time by the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) to help it collect outstanding £1.7m in tax.

Ian Defty, a partner at Kingston Smith, has been appointed provisional liquidator of foreign exchange company Credit Lucky Limited.

SOCA’s application for the order, made by the High Court, followed a petition to wind up the company in respect of outstanding tax liabilities. The petition is yet to be heard.

On the same day as Defty’s appointment as liquidator, the Metropolitan Police used search warrants at a number of UK addresses across the UK in respect of the company and others.

Defty said: “Whilst understandably my enquires are at an early stage, I will be seeking the assistance of those involved in the company, as well as the law enforcement bodies, to ascertain the reasons behind the company accruing the petition debt of some £1.7m.”
