Jeremy Newman to retire from the profession after international stint ends in September
JEREMY NEWMAN is to retire after three years as BDO International’s chief executive officer.
Newman steps down on 30 September, succeeded by Netherlands managing partner Martin van Roekel.
“I am delighted to be taking up this leadership role and honoured to be following in the footsteps of Jeremy Newman. I intend to continue the same pace of development and level of activity set in motion and trust that I can contribute to the further growth and success of the BDO network,” said van Roekel.
He continued: “It is important that the change process which has substantially promoted the positive development of BDO throughout the world is continued.”
Newman thanked BDO member firms’ partners and staff for allowing him to lead change in the network with “stronger central leadership”.
During his time in the international role, Newman handled the Banco Espirito lawsuit against BDO US, overseen the network rebrand and continued to call for changes to the audit market.
He will “seek new opportunities” outside the profession.
Newman led the UK firm to several Accountancy Age Awards triumphs, including ‘best firm’ and ‘best employer’. He also won ‘personality of the year’ in 2006.
