ENVIRONMENTAL TAXES could clock up £4bn in five years according to a senior tax adviser.
Katharine Arthur, tax principal at MacIntyre Hudson found the budget to be “surprisingly” green despite discounts to petrol prices.
“Over the five tax years from April 2011, tax revenues from motoring and environmental taxes will be just over £4bn,” she said.
However, the government’s decision to change electricity tariffs could hurt small and medium sized enterprises in the green industries, such as wind and solar farms.
