    Budget2011: Duty on alcohol and cigarettes

    Alcohol duty to remain unchanged, as previously announced, tobacco to increase 2% above inflation

    THE CHANCELLOR has announced that there will be no changes to alcohol duty other than what was previously announced but tobacco will increase 2% above inflation.

    As previously announced the duty on alcohol will increase on the strongest beers.

    Tobacco will increase 2% above inflation effective from 6pm tonight.

    However, the Chancellor is closing the regime to narrow the difference in price among cheaper tobacco and more expensive ones.
