Competitors and representatives of the US Department of Justice to attend EU hearing over Oracle' acquisition of Sun
Oracle competitors will attend and speak at the European Commission hearing
over the accounting software provider’s bid to takeover Sun Microsystems.
Both
Microsoft
and business financial software company,
SAP,
will take part in the two day hearing expected to start on Thursday,
Reuters
reported.
The EC has said it was an opportunity for
Oracle
and Sun competitors to argue their case to members of the
European
Commission and competition regulators in Europe.
Oracle president Safra Catz and a representative from the US Department of
Justice, which approved the deal earlier this year, are also expected to attend
the hearing, said reports.
Last month the EC objected to the take over bid as it felt the deal would
squeeze competition in the market.
Larry Ellison, Oracle’s chief executive, has said Sun’s Java programming
language, an internet language that will makes it easier to upgrade technology,
is “the single most important software asset we have acquired”.
The EC is expected to make its final decision on the deal on 27 January 2010.
