Three and a half year sentence for former Brazil footy star Romario
Former Brazil football star Romario has been convicted of tax evasion and
could face several years in jail.
Romario was found guilty of evading $500,000 in tax when he played for
Brazilian club Flamengo between 1996 and 1997,
according
to reports, during which time he failed to declare all his
earnings.
Although he faces a three and a half year jail sentence, it could be reduced
to community service after an appeal.
His lawyer Alexandre Lopes de Oliveira said the striker was innocent and had
not intended to evade taxes.
