Football agents line up FA in tax battle

Angry football agents look to end of transfer window to thrash out how to deal troublesome tax rules
Football agents will square up with the Football Association over changes to
the way they are taxed.
The agents will meet after the window to discuss how to fight against the tax
changes.
Agents will be paid by their players rather than treating agents as an
expense, leading to pressure on both parties to ask for more money to cover the
loss of tax breaks.
‘The rules have proved unworkable and amount to a rogues’ charter. They
penalise those who want to work within the rules, while those who don’t carry on
regardless, Mel Stein, Association of Agents spokesman told the Daily Mail.
The FA is engaging a tax specialist to advise it on the best way forward.
An FA spokesman said: ‘Once the transfer window is closed, we will be getting
feedback from all sides to analyse how the new agents regulations have worked
out.’
