Lap dancers to manage their own VAT after Spearmint Rhino wins appeal againt HM Revenue & Customs
Lap dancing club Spearmint Rhino has won a VAT appeal case in the courts.
The club won its appeal in the High Court against paying VAT on the earnings
of its dancers, reported the BBC.
Instead, the dancers will have to pay VAT themselves, although they only
require a VAT registration if they earn more than £60,000.
David Milne QC
had argued that the club should not have to pay because the dancer provided
the service, and dancers pay to use the club’s facilities.
HMRC
will consider the decision before deciding whether to appeal.
