Reappointment as senior partner and chief executive of Deloitte prompts management shake-up by John Connolly
John Connolly has been reappointed as senior partner and chief executive of
Deloitte, and will mark the beginning of his new period in charge with a
management shake-up.
Connolly was re-elected by Deloitte partners as the firm’s leader for the
next five years this week, and plans to bring seven additional people onto the
Deloitte executive and appoint new heads for audit, tax client services and
industry, he told Accountancy Age.
The plans are part of Connolly’s ambitious strategy to drive Deloitte’s
growth. Over the next two years Deloitte plans to increase revenues to £2bn,
claims that have been met with some scepticism. In 2003 he made similarly bold
claims about overtaking PwC within two to three years.
‘I recently implemented a five year plan and an 18-month strategy which sets
audacious goals for taking Deloitte forward. The change in leadership is part of
that,’ Connolly said.
Deloitte’s partners have brought forward Connolly’s re-election by a year.
Connolly will now lead the firm until May 2011, after which he said he would
retire.
Separately, Ernst & Young said this week that Paul G. Davies is to be its
new head of tax, succeeding Aidan O ‘Carroll.
