Businesses should leave UK with 'Olympic legacy'

Billions spent on 2012 Olympics infrastructure must benefit UK economy, says minister
Olympics minister Tessa Jowell has claimed the £3bn to be spent on
infrastructure to host the London Olympics must provide the ‘maximum benefit’ to
the UK economy.
‘This doesn’t mean an outdated ‘Buy British’ campaign, but we do want to
ensure that the public money spent on the Games is recycled into the British
economy wherever possible to the benefit of British-based companies and the
people working in them,’ said Jowell.
Speaking today at the first 2012 Business Summit, held in Canary Wharf, she
added that business involved in the Games would have ‘failed the Olympic
tradition if we have not delivered a positive and lasting economic legacy for
our entire country.
‘It is in the interest of every British business that the games are an
enormous success and the CBI will be with the London Organising Committee and
the Olympic Delivery Authority all the way to the finishing tape,’ said CBI
director-general Sir Digby Jones at the summit.
