FA board overhaul expected

Lord Burns is expected to recommend a complete restructuring of the FA’s
board today, when he presents the findings of his review.

Currently, the FA board consists of six representatives of the professional
game – four from the Premier League and two from the Football League – and six
from the amateur game, as well as a non-voting chairman and chief executive.

The FA board structure has been criticised for been rife with conflicts of
interest and Lord Burns is expected to call for a smaller board with more
independence and executive clout.

The Guardian reports that Lord Burns will ask for greater autonomy
in the professional and amateur game, and the introduction of formal processes
for distributing funds and working with the FA.

It is anticipated that the professional game’s representation will be cut to
two representatives from the Premier League and one from the Football League,
and that a minimum of two non-executive directors will be appointed to provide
balance.

Lord Burns is also expected to ask for the finance director to join the board
and receive voting power.
