Link: Andreasen to stand as MEP
Andreasen was suspended two years ago after revealing serious weakness in the Commission’s accounting system but no action has yet been taken against her. Last year she was named Personality of the Year by Accountancy Age.
A Commission disciplinary board is about to report on charges that Andreasen breached staff regulations by publicly revealing her findings.
‘The board is made up of officials from the Commission who are paid by the Commission and report to it, so it’s very unlikely that they’re going to do something that isn’t what the Commission wants,” she told Accountancy Age.
‘My view is that they decided two years ago what they’re going to do with me and they’ve only waited for a moment when it is politically convenient.’
The Commission is not bound to follow the board’s findings and the matter could be passed to the incoming Commission. Andreasen would take her old job back if offered but this was ‘unrealistic’, she said. ‘But it’s realistic that they would re-instate me in another job where I could make a positive contribution to the reform process,’ she said.
