A charter accountant, who has been a partner at PwC since 1989, he replaces Adam Crozier who resigned late last year.
Palios will bring with him vast experience in the field of insolvency and business recovery. His skill in restructuring large companies will be particularly useful given the financial plight of many professional football clubs, from the lower divisions right up to the Premier League.
Another string to his bow will be his experience as a top-level football player – Palios was a tough and combatant midfielder during his time with Tranmere Rovers FC during the 1970s and 1980s.
These qualities were echoed by a former colleague at the firm, Ian Powell, PwC’s business recovery services leader, who said that as ‘former professional footballer, chartered accountant and business recovery expert’ Palios was ‘well equipped for the role’.
