Tax consultants sue over 'unworkable' IT system

Tax and business consultancy WJB Chiltern Group plc has launched a £2m damages claim over a new computer system it says is unworkable.

The group, which calls itself one of the UK’s largest tax consultancies outside the Big Five, is suing Hertfordshire-based Foundation Systems for more than £2.2m for the costs of replacing the system, staff costs, management time, and a £1m shortfall in targets blamed on the system.

The consultancy claims the new system, supplied by Foundation Systems, is unacceptably slow, with some reports taking an hour to run, some functions not working properly, and certain hardware being wholly inadequate.

The firm’s Jersey branch found it took around fifteen minutes to open any SharpOWL applications, and Chiltern has branded the system unfit for its purpose and unsatisfactory, according to a High Court writ.

A spokesman for Foundation Systems told AccountancyAge.com the company had received the writ.

‘Foundation Systems refutes the allegations made by WJB Chiltern and will defend its position resolutely,’ he added.
