KPMG has topped the Zephus league of corporate finance advisers for 2001, raking up 144 deals with a total value of £6.4bn.

The firm’s largest deal was the sale of Centre Parcs from Scottish and Newcastle to Pierre et Vacances for #670m.
The Zephus league table for accountancy firm corporate finance advisers revealed Andersen was the second largest player, working on £5.5bn worth of deals which included the £2bn sale of Yell. PricewaterhouseCoopers came in third with £4.7bn worth of deals.

The former managing director of JP Morgan has joined the advisory board of PricewaterhouseCoopers Corporate Finance. Marion Sears will work with PwC’s healthcare team supporting marketing and transaction execution in the pharmaceutical, over-the-counter, medical device and healthcare services industry segments. Prior to joining PwC, Sears had been a director of Robert Fleming, having previously worked at Barings, UBS Phillips & Drew and GlaxoSmithKline.
Private equity investors backed 32 companies that were delisted from the stock market at a value of £4.9bn in 2001 according to research from the Centre of Management Buy Out Research. Backed by Deloitte & Touche and Barclays Private Equity, the research showed the total value of public to private deals topped £4.9bn, the second highest figure on record. Deloitte’s Chris Ward said: ‘There is a large population of potential P2P targets which, in present economic conditions, will mean 2002 will be a year when increasing numbers of companies choose to delist and go private.’
