Good finance directors are harder to find and appoint than chief executives or company chairmen, according to a new survey.
Of the more than 100 director level personnel experts polled, 16% said that an FD is almost the hardest person to find.
FDs are only marginally easier to appoint than an operations director, 18%, and IT directors, 15%.
Only 2% of the respondents said chairmen were the most difficult staff members to track down.
Norrie Johnson, managing director interim management consultants Executives Online, who carried out the survey, said it was the economic climate that made all the difference.
‘Although those responsible for corporate strategy are very important, at a time of economic downturn companies really value the expertise of a smart financial director, which is often crucial to the longevity of the business.
‘If a good finance director suddenly leaves a company, the bottom line impact can be immediately felt,’ he said.
