News: Salary soundings survey
Although salary negotiations are an area of much concern and confusion, a recent survey by Robert Half International Consulting (RHI Consulting) discovered that this uncertainty is unnecessary.
The European results concluded that over half (55%) of the managers surveyed believed that it is inconsequential whether salary negotiations are initiated by the candidate or the employer. Over one tenth (12%) thought that salary negotiations should always begin with the candidate but one third (32%) prefer to start the process themselves.
UK employers are slightly more conservative, with 46% preferring to initiate the negotiation process themselves and only 9% believing the candidate should start the process. France is the most flexible country, with almost three quarters of employers being unconcerned about who began the process.
