E&Y backs HSE over Railtrack
Ernst & Young, the Railtrack administrator, says it would not block a Health & Safety prosecution of the rail company over the Paddington rail crash.
Ernst & Young, the Railtrack administrator, says it would not block a Health & Safety prosecution of the rail company over the Paddington rail crash.
The public safety watchdog has been told the administrator would not stand in the way of a move to bring civil charges against Railtrack over the 1999 Ladbroke Grove disaster in which 31 people died.
Administrators have the power to stay such actions but E&Y said it would not do so as it actually agreed with the HSE that the suit should continue.
The HSE said it had not taken a decision on whether to press charges, but it is believed such a move is inevitable.
