Chas Roy-Chowdhury’s proposals (Time for a clean sheet, page 10, 8 November) ring a bell with those of us involved in the charity sector.
The different VAT regimes and the concessions available to charities are very helpful but at the same time very confusing.
Much as we wish Mr Chowdhury success we hope it will not obliterate the slight advantages that charities get. If he succeeds in creating a level playing field with local authorities in the provision of care services we will be very grateful. He can count on our support for a simplified system, provided it recognises the increasing number of services charities perform for (non VAT paying) governing bodies.
