Queen's quest for new royal accountant
The Queen could poach a Big Five partner after announcing she is searching for a new keeper of the Privy Purse to replace Sir Michael Peat.
The Queen could poach a Big Five partner after announcing she is searching for a new keeper of the Privy Purse to replace Sir Michael Peat.
London-based headhunter Odgers Ray & Berndtson, has been hired to find the suitable accountant for the role, which is estimated to include a package worth in the region of Pounds 300,000 a year.
The role, essentially finance director to the Queen, includes managing the ‘diverse’ financial affairs of the Royal Household. The keeper will manage a department consisting of ‘considerable’ funds.
Peat, who has been the Queen’s accountant since 1990, is leaving to become Prince Charles’s private secretary after successfully slashing the overheads of the Royal House, such as reducing the royal electricity bill by Pounds 3m.
Speculation recently suggested Gerry Acher, London senior partner at KPMG, could be in the running. He has been appointed honorary treasurer to the Queen’s Golden Jubilee and will retire from KPMG at the end of the year.
A spokeswoman for Odgers Ray & Berndtson would not comment on the vacancy.
