ACCA is currently developing an MBA programme with Oxford Brookes University which will be open to qualified accountants from January.
The move comes as the MBA begins to gain ground as an alternative qualification to traditional accountancy training. Earlier in the year, CIMA launched an MBA programme with the Open University.
Modules for the distance-learning programme will cover topics including strategic management, global strategy, and change and renewal within organisations.
Students will have a personal tutor and specially designed study guides and textbooks. They will be marked on the basis of their coursework, examinations, and a dissertation.
The programme costs Pounds 6,000 and will allow students to skip the finance modules in non-specialist MBA programmes.
The association has already received 200 expressions of interest and has registered 34 of its own members for the programme. From July 2002, the programme will begin accepting members of the five other Consultative Committee of Accountancy Bodies.
