Progress on global rules tops agenda

UK and US accountancy experts will gather today at the third global accounting standards debate in London to examine the latest international developments.

The ‘Meet The Experts’ seminar hosted by PricewaterhouseCoopers and the International Accounting Standards Board at the London Hilton is designed to look at accounting issues at an international and US level.

It will also look at changes at the US Securities and Exchange Commission under the new leadership of Harvey Pitt. Recently, the SEC promised a new era of co-operation between the commission and accountants.

Key speakers include Sir David Tweedie, chairman of the IASB, William E Decker, partner-in-charge of global capital markets at PwC and John Makinson, group finance director of Pearson.

Speakers will address pressing issues such as how companies will fully comply with IASs following a European ruling to make all European listed companies to adopt the international standards by 2005.

Other speakers include Michael Crooch, a board member of the US Financial Accounting Standards Board, and David Kaplan, PwC partner and former chairman of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ executive committee.
