Big Five firm Ernst & Young has appointed Colin Masters as partner in charge of InvEnt, its new tax service for internet entrepreneurs. InvEnt is part of the firm’s private client service, and Masters joins the new division from the firm’s trust and estate planning unit, which he headed. Masters, the author of several tax books, specialises in the entrepreneurial sector and also advises on all UK and cross-border personal taxation matters. InvEnt’s work will cover capital transaction planning, company disposals, succession planning, retirement planning and share schemes.

Andersen has attracted marketing specialist Harvey Scriven to its business location services team. Scriven, 32, will be advising companies on expanding their international operations. He was previously head of business development at regional development agency Advantage West Midlands. Scriven’s role in helping to attract inward investment and manage and develop networks of overseas offices has given him experience in Japanese, Korean and North American markets. He will be based in Andersen’s Midlands office in Birmingham.

 

Kingston Smith has boosted its not-for-profit division with the appointment of Neil Finlayson as partner. Finlayson joins the top 20 firm from haysmacintyre. He has worked in the not-for-profit sector for more than 12 years, was the first subscriber member of the Charity Finance Directors Group and serves on its education and training committee. He also teaches on the charity finance MSc at South Bank University and is a trustee of charity Centrepoint.

Chartered accountant and insolvency practitioner AH Tomlinson & Co has appointed two new associates. Licensed insolvency practitioner Sandra Marshall has over 25 years’ experience and joins the firm from Waterworths in Blackburn. Keith Tully has been promoted to the position of associate after two years with the firm. He joined as a senior manager and has ten years’ experience with national and regional firms.

Tenon Lathams, the north-west arm of the accountancy services group, has made four new appointments. Former head of the Lathams corporate recovery division Andrew Redmond has become chairman of the group’s north-west region. Redmond, 38, who has been with Lathams for seven years, will also serve on the group’s strategy and development committee. Mike Reeves, previously a partner in Lathams corporate finance division, will oversee the introduction of Tenon’s corporate finance team nationally. John Reynard is the group’s new head of forensic accounting, and Tony Atkinson, previously Lathams FD, has become Tenon’s group operations director.

Spencer Bennett and Guy Hammett have joined PKF as financial planning consultants. Hammett has 15 years of financial services experience with Nomura and Mazars Neville Russell. Bennett joins the firm from a Chelmsford-based legal practice and has 16 years experience in financial services. Both will report to PKF’s director of financial planning Matthew Welsh.

Mark Crossley has been appointed group financial controller at waste management company Betta. He will be responsible for the holding company and three subsidiaries. Crossley will be based at Betta’s offices in Hockley and joins from London catering company Tony Page Ltd where he was company accountant.

Martin Lister has been appointed new finance manager at Thames Valley Housing. Lister joins the association from disability charity Scope where he was assistant director of finance. He has held financial posts in the UK and abroad. Thames Valley Housing is based in West London and manages properties and low-cost housing schemes in London and the South East.

Former Pricewaterhouse-Coopers partner Louise Somerset has moved to head up the new Cheltenham office of Abacus Financial Services Group. Somerset’s team will provide and develop personal wealth planning services for clients in the UK and abroad. Abacus has been based in the Channel Islands for 30 years and is now expanding its operations onto the mainland.

 

Financial services firm Gerrard Group has appointed Paul Stockton as FD. Stockton joins from parent company Old Mutual where he was director of finance. He has also been a senior manager with PricewaterhouseCoopers in London and New York.

Engineering consultancy and supplier Weeks Group has appointed Simon Gunn as FD, replacing Peter Griffith. Gunn is a qualified engineer and chartered accountant with experience of corporate restructuring across several industries. He joins from GB Railways, where he was group FD.

 

PC and console software designer Codemasters has appointed Michael Lawther as group FD. He leaves the position of FD at pharmaceutical company Scotia Holdings.

 

Emma Lancaster has joined consultancy firm SHL Group as FD. She joins from leisure company Rank Group, where she was director of finance and business development.
