E&Y makes executive appointment
Ernst & Young has appointed a new managing partner to its executive.
Mark Molyneux, 42, has replaced Donald Turner who is standing down to devote all his time to his role as managing partner for the Scotland and Northern Ireland region. Molyneux, who is replaced as managing partner for the south region by Gerald Russell, will hold overall responsibility for all the UK regions.
He told Accountancy Age: ‘I want to focus on recruiting, developing and retaining the best people within the firm.’
Turner, who will remain on E&Y’s executive until June, faces a period of consolidation in Scotland after two senior partners, corporate financier Andy Allan and corporate tax chief Aidan O’Carroll, defected to rivals Rutherford Manson Dowds in November.
Turner, who has been on the executive for ten years, said: ‘We are currently number one in Scotland, but the aim between now and 2000 is to significantly grow the business across the board.’
In addition, E&Y has also appointed Geoff Norman as its new managing partner for the Midlands. Norman replaces Brian Waters who retires at the end of June.
Leading City lawyer Anthony Davis, 40, has also joined E&Y as a partner in the firm’s financial services office. Davis joins E&Y from City solicitors Lovell White Durrant – the first time a senior tax partner of a major City law firm has moved to an accountancy practice.
The firm’s tax division is currently undergoing major change as it centralises its tax return processing operation into two dedicated centres in Exeter and Newcastle, involving retraining for hundreds of UK staff.
