Andersens launches human capital plan

Arthur Andersen is focusing its human resource, compensation and benefits practice in a single Human Capital Service practice designed to capitalise on the trend towards treating personnel as financial assets.

It has launched a worldwide recruitment campaign to fill any gaps in the collection of specialists it thinks it will need to deliver the service.

They include experts in human resources, communications, accountants and lawyers, according to the director in charge of the new unit, Brian Friedman.

‘Clients are recognising that the conventional touchy-feely human resource approach is moving out of fashion,’ he said. ‘They want to be able to measure and monitor the investment they’re making.’

The practice’s work will encompass simple issues such as car schemes up to programmes to deal with absenteeism, he said. The unifying theme is that its work should focus on the payback generated by the schemes.

Friedman said establishing the unit will involve no dramatic changes, but is necessary if Andersens is to capitalise on growth which has seen demand for such services grow 100% over the last year. ‘It’s evolution, not revolution,’ he added.

Human Capital Services will tie in reward strategies, human resource management, executive compensation, profit-related pay and company car tax advice.
